RAIN RFID Alliance outlined a proposal for testing RAIN RFID readers and a means of reporting reader sensitivity in a consistent and replicable manner.
RAIN RFID Reader Sensitivity
RAIN RFID reader manufacturers are encouraged to provide
data on the reader’s receiver sensitivity. Some of them already provide a value, but each of them is measuring this parameter in a different way.
Reader sensitivity is not in fact just one value, but a figure which depends on the frequency, the transmit power, the reader functionality…
The goal of this measurement is to provide more information to the system integrator, taking into account not only the tag parameters related to communication between a reader and a tag (Tari, BLF, M, TRext, DR, RTcal, TRca), but also the statistical nature of RFID operation (% of messages correctly interprested by the reader when tags are received with a given signal strength).
